Dreaming of Palms and Beaches

Winter in Maine is one of the reasons why Wifey and I are looking into the prospect of retiring in sunshine state. The thoughts of the warm climate and wonderful beaches are the closest place to being in paradise. Winter in Maine can be bitter, long and depressing. During this time, work is indeed scarce aside from the fact that the economy is still not doing pretty well in construction business. Instead of ice fishing, it would be nice if I could explore the everglade and take photos of the alligators. And I’m sure Wifey will be very happy shopping downtown in flip-flops.

Winter in Maine will have no effect at all if you have a home in West Palm Beach. If you are not from Maine, West Palm Beach is still the best place closest to paradise and this is the best time to acquire properties and take advantage of the economic situation. Extended Holiday

It's still the Holidays, sort of. The long holiday weekends gave me extended time hanging out with my wife at home. But with the monster storm raging the Nor'eastern, Mainers and plow trucks alike, are taking a break from the holiday break to make our loved ones safe.

It's still the Holidays, kinda. The long weekend of 2010 would have been nice if not with the monster storm bringing an average of 14 inches of snow. And it would have been nicer if work will boom again. But since the storm left an impressive accumulation of snow, my work is now limited to plowing aside from helping out a friend clean his chimney.

Everyone has been praying for changes and a better year. 2009 was not too favorable in the economic aspect but still we were able to survive. We just hope that this year, everything will bounch back and the economy will improve so we can get more work.

Holidays Hoopla

Finally, the Holiday season is almost over.In this line of work, the Holidays always get in the way... weather you are a home owner or a builder. Oh well, in any line of work, the Holidays always get in the way, financially speaking, hehehehe. And just thinking of the presents to give your loved ones gives everyone on the face of the planet a point of consideration, especially if your budget is so tight.

And with the winter season just starting... it is also unbeatable for the industry to slowdown aside from the fact that the economy is already messed up.

Well, the year will soon be over and another year is looming ahead. This is the time to be thankful for all the blessings we have received for this year. This is also the time to pray and hope for the best in the coming year. And most importantly, this is indeed the time to give way for "room improvement", quite literally and figuratively.

Between Carpentry and Hunting

Hunting season here in Maine is almost over. And since our project is already finished and we are still waiting for the next one, I guess this is my chance to do what I love doing aside from building houses... hunting.





The start of the hunting season was pretty good to me. And I am proud to say that I got a "monster" last week. Yup, it was a 203 pound, 10-pointer buck that I shot around Sabago lake area. The funny thing is, me and my friend had to travel 4 hours north on the first day of the hunting season and didn't see anything but tracks. And this buck that I shot was just about 3 miles from my place.





Oh well, it may not be as big as the one I got in 2007 [250-pounder/14-pointer] where I got the 6th place in the entire state of Maine for the biggest buck and which earned me The Bigest Buck Club patch and certificate from the Maine Sportsman, but still I am happy that I got one this season.

The Carpenter's Work

The work of a carpenter is not done when the last nail was pound. It is not over until the last wood is laid. And it is not finished until the last drop of paint is applied.

The work of a carpenter continues maybe not in the same house he built but in the same trust that he built with the home owner. His work is carried on perhaps not in the same place he erected his masterpiece but in the same confidence he set up with his co-worker. And his work remains his legacy as he build new abode to master his craft.
